We’re rushing to get you all the good veggies we can outta the fields before this big storm hits. We hope you enjoy this big, hurried harvest. Lots of good salad greens and roasting roots this week.

We’ll have to update you on the status of the crops after we’re past this huge winter storm. Cross your fingers all crops survive!

Your vegetable line-up:

  • Arugula — For everyone this week! Beautiful, young, tender leaves from out of the greenhouse. We love it when a planting of cutting greens works out so beautifully- Enjoy a clean, weed-free crop!

  • Carrots — For the everyone this week! A beautiful rainbow of colors.

  • Cabbage — For everyone this week, and 2 for the large.

  • Roasting Turnips — Lots to go around! A mix of Scarlett Queen turnips (these are a gorgeous shade of rosy pink. They’re not beets!) and Purple Top. 2.5lb for the Large shares, 1.5 lb for the regular shares.

  • Salad Turnips — A few Japanese Hakurei salad turnips for everyone. These are solid white, and area eaten raw, as a snack or on a salad or sandwich.

  • Spinach — For the Large shares.

  • Fennel Bulb — These little baby fennel will be a delicious addition to a roasted carrot side dish, or shaved into a fresh salad. Seal these up in a bag in your fridge to stay fresh. You can discard the frilly fronds, or if you want to use thems to flavor a meal like grilled fish or chicken, or a soup, cut them off the bulb and store separately. They’re delicious.

  • Radish — Red Rover.

Veggie Storage tips:

  • Everything wants to be washed well before cooking, but keep the dirt on till then, to prevent faster spoilage.

  • Roots like carrots, radishes, and turnips, including salad turnips, want to be kept sealed up in the fridge, high moisture, cold temperature. They’ll stay fresh and crisp if you remove the tops.

  • All leafy greens, including cabbages want to be in your fridge. Seal them up in a bag or container to retain moisture for longest storage life. If your bagged greens like arugula and spinach have any standing water in them, drain that excess water out to prevent spoilage.

We’d love to hear stories and recipes of your culinary adventures this week. Tag us on Instagram or Facebook, showing us how you’ve used your CSA share.
