CSA Share Notes May 7, 2026
Welcome to another CSA harvest!
I mentioned this last week and by now it might be ringing true: This is the time of year when you need to strategize how you’re going to use up all the abundance!
Our CSA Guidebook has all the tips so you are not wasting any of your precious farm share. Here’s a tip easy to implement in Spring: a nightly side-salad with every dinner. Also, plan to give some items away each week if you’re struggling to get through it all. (bonus: this introduces more people to fresh, local eating!)
Salad greens are fleeting in our climate - they hate heat- so we will only have them for about a month, so eat it while we got it! You’ll miss it in July!
My favorite salads we made this week:
Mediterranean: lettuce, hakurei turnip, cherry tomato, cucumber, feta, kalamata olive, sliced onion, grilled chicken
Tex mex: lettuce and spring mix, radish, cilantro, green onion, cherry tomato, pepitas, cotija cheese, crushed chips, crispy breaded chicken, salsa sour cream dressing
Chard and Arugula side salad: parm, toasted pecan, seasonal fruit, red onion
Asian slaw: pac choi, kohlrabi, daikon, green onion, ginger sesame dressing
Here’s this week’s vegetable line-up:
Head Lettuce — Everyone got a Red Fusion and a Green Fusion (these are a lot like romaine, but they’re frilly), Then Larges and Regulars also got an Adriana (butter/boston type), and Large shares got a Ruby Sky, which is a very pretty red and lime green lettuce (that’s 4, 3, 2)
Snow Peas — Everyone got just a few for snackin,’ or to add to a tasty stir fry.
Bunched Greens — Large shares received Collard greens, Regular got Lacinato kale, Mini got winterbor (curly) kale. This tiny cool front might be your last chance for soup weather, so cook up a smoked sausage, potato, and kale soup this week, or perhaps a zuppa toscana!
Chard — Regular shares received a pretty bunch of rainbow chard, perfect to use as you would spinach. It’s wonderful sauteed, also great roasted crispy, and it pairs well with a beef roast.
Radish — Regular shares received 2 daikon, Mini and large shares got Red Rover. If you feel like radishes aren’t your jam, give roasting them a try! Some swear by roasted radishes, as it really transforms them to have a totally different flavor. My favorite way: slice atop a well-buttered piece of sourdough, and sprinkle with some fancy salt.
Pac Choi — everyone received this large, beautiful Asian cabbage. It’s fantastic in kimchee (with your daikon), or in a slaw or even a stir fry, or a Thai curry.
Onions — White for the Large and Regular. A red onion for the Minis. Sweet and delicious.

Veggie Storage tips:
Everything wants to be washed well before cooking, but keep the dirt on till then, to prevent faster spoilage.
All leafy greens and roots want to be in your fridge. Seal them up in a bag or container to retain moisture for longest storage life. The onions can be cut to fit into a bag and get sealed up in your fridge.
If you haven’t discovered the Peak Fresh bags, yet, they’re a great reusable bag that helps retain the nutrients in the veggies. And we’re not an affiliate or anything, they’re just really good!
We’d love to hear stories and recipes of your culinary adventures this week. Tag us on Instagram or Facebook, showing us how you’ve used your CSA share.

Bouquet share:
The first Strawflower and Zinnias went into a few bouquets this week. Our greenery is mostly Baptisia, and we still have lots of statice, queen anne’s lace, veronica, yarrow, and dianthus, but those are all heading out, as new crops come ready. The bouquets will really start to change now, and more bright colors will come available!
