CSA Share Notes Aug 20, 2026
We’ve got gorgeous squash, cukes, and zucchini this week. Abundance in this drought? It’s so exciting! And it wasn’t without herculean effort and a lot of luck that we pulled these crops off this time of year. I hope you celebrate with us with a whole mess of grilled zucchini, and a giant cucumber salad.
Did you join the fall CSA yet? There’s still a teensy bit of room!
Here’s this week’s vegetable line-up:
Cucumber — 2 types: slicers and picklers. All are delicious eaten fresh.
Eggplant — Remember: Get a little char on it, and it’s so delicious! These plants are tired, so we’re not getting as much out of them but I’ll betcha you’re ready for a break from eggplant. Large shares received Italian Barbarella and our beautiful tiny fairytale eggplant. Regular shares received Barbarella and a couple of long Japanese. Mini shares received Fairytale.
Okra — A nice portion for everyone this week. This heirloom Hill Country Red was developed in Kerrville Texas and it so fantastic. Even the large pods stay deliciously tender. Okra goes bad very quickly, so make a plan to use this up within the next couple of days. We recommend roasting or grilling. High heat is the way to go!
Bell Peppers — Everyone received a nice helping.
Sweet Italian Peppers — Everyone received a couple of Italian peppers. Perfect for a homemade Pizza
Hot Peppers — A couple of jalapenos for all.
Squash — loads for everyone!
Zucchini — loads for everyone!
Pattypan Squash — These cuties are so much fun. Tender and delish, just like your yellow squash. I love to slice the into big round star-shaped disks to lay on the grill.
Onions — The final onions of the year! Ya’ll savor them. We will have them again next May!
Veggie Storage tips:
Counter storage: Onions.
Fridge storage: Everything else! Seal them up in a bag or container to retain moisture for longest storage life
Everything wants to be washed well before cooking, but keep the dirt on till then, to prevent faster spoilage.
We’d love to hear stories and recipes of your culinary adventures this week. Tag us on Instagram or Facebook, showing us how you’ve used your CSA share.
